The massacre in rural areas has increased in recent years, according to the latest available figures on farm attacks and murders.
Henry Geldenhuys, deputy president of the agricultural organization TAU SA, says that according to their statistics, there were 409 farm attacks in 2019 compared to 395 farm attacks in 2018, during the same period 56 murders on farms tenor 53 of the previous year. However, he continues by stating that the figures may be even higher as December is not over.
According to Geldenhuys, there were even farm attacks on Christmas Day in Harding respectively in KwaZulu-Natal, where a farmer was attacked with a knife, in Kakamas in the Northern Cape, where a family was attacked, and in Bapsfontein in Gauteng, where a farmer was assaulted.
