The SABC radio service got a tough fight when it they decided that the radio stations would not be allowed to broadcast football matches in the future.
The 18 different radio stations have about 27 million listeners, who will now not hear football broadcasts, and must leave on TV if they want to know something about matches being played.
The radio stations relied heavily on football matches to retain their listeners, but with the new ban they may not even announce the final points score of matches.
The SABC’s new arrangement stems from an agreement entered into with SuperSport that will retain exclusive rights to football games, and has entered into the agreement with the national broadcaster to pay them R280 million.
