Furthermore, anarchy is once again threatening at certain Afrikaans schools in the Gauteng province after the Department of Education does not comply with its own requirements for the enrolment of Gr. 1- and gr. 8 pupils in 2020.

Great dissatisfaction prevails in the province after schools on Friday received lists of learners enrolled at schools, especially schools located in the north of Pretoria. The governing body of some accuses the Department of Education of not adhering to agreements on admission policy at schools. An Afrikaans teacher at a prestigious private school in Durban Westville was suspended after she allegedly told the children that white children are generally smarter than children of color.

An investigation by the education department will determine the fate of the teacher. In 2018, an English teacher resigned to allegations that she used the offended K-word. The reality is that children of different cultures and religions think, reason and visualize differently because of their background and environment.

Use of language can have an inhibitory effect on a child if he / she is not taught in the mother tongue. The guideline still remains that a Zulu child is raised by a Zulu teacher and an African-Christian child by a teacher who shares the same creed, ethos and culture.
